Anne Barnham
Monday 5th – Sunday 18th March 2012
First Solo Exhibition
Anne was born in Carlisle and since then has moved around the country and abroad. Anne has a deep love of outdoor life and has settled in Lincolnshire. The great skies and distances are made for her fresh and clear watercolours.
‘Landscapes with water appeal most but I like to have a building or structure of some kind to offset the gentleness of nature. The contrast between tones and shapes with deep, clear colours is exciting and I try to convey this in my works. The Norfolk coast and southern Ireland have introduced me to the enjoyment of boats and coastlines.’
Monday – Friday 10 – 5.30pm
Saturday 10.30 – 5pm
Sunday 10.30 – 5pm

Tony Bartl 100 years in Retrospective
Monday 9th January – Saturday 4th February 2012
The Sam Scorer Gallery is honoured to be holding this most important exhibition. Antonin Bartl born in Francisbad, Czechoslavakia in 1912, a remarkable life story from working for 20th Century Fox in Prague, labour camp imprisonment and escape, Russian army artist and finally England bound.
In Sheila Bartl’s collection of artefacts is an exhibition programme from the forties that lists him exhibiting alongside such luminaries as Lucian Freud, Paul Nash and Henry Moore. Indeed had Tony not been so reticent about pushing his work forward his name too would have been added to the list of the major players of British twentieth century art.
For 23 years Tony taught at Lincoln College of Art teaching and encouraging young students to pursue and hone their talent. His works have been generously loaned to the gallery from all over the country for this show and of course a special mention goes to Tony’s widow Sheila for her enthusiasm, input and continuous support to the Sam Scorer Gallery.
Open 10am – 4.30pm.
Please see separate page for full history and more images.
N.B. This exhibition was previously advertised as being open on Sunday 5th February, final day is Saturday 4th February.
