Presented Objects

Using materials that are found within everyday life, Joshua Lockwood re-codes our understanding of the object as unfamiliar or strange. Predominately using items formally used for recording and documenting, they comprise of physical material that underpins our forms of communication. Small interventions scramble the logic of the everyday object; changing their regularity to form new utilities from alternative rhythms.

‘Fragments’

This will be the first solo exhibition by emerging artist Lauren Cooke in her home town of Lincoln since she re-located to London in 2006, where, in 2011, she gained her Masters of Art with Commendation in Fine Art from Kingston University.

Fragments will feature recent painting, sculpture and drawing as well as work created especially for this show.Cooke’s work questions the representation of the human figure in post modern and contemporary art through a fragmentary journey away from the subject and towards abstraction.

This exhibition explores how intimacy can be interpreted as nudity and challenges established perceptions of gender, sexuality and representation. In creating the work Cooke has employed the tradition of life drawing as a starting point, thereby touching upon a vast historical discourse, whilst simultaneously looking to the future and the possibility of the new.

‘From Within’

Textile Lincs is a small motivated group of designer/makers with a passion for textiles. Since formation in 1992, the group has staged more than nineteen selling exhibitions of original work. A key aim is to present the beauty of textiles to the viewing public through a diversity of approaches. Textile skills and mixed media are used in innovative ways to interpret chosen concepts and themes.

The group works towards meeting exhibition deadlines through a series of workdays where a serious commitment to developing each individual’s creative potential is combined with the constructive support of like-minded people.  The group meets regularly at the Hub, the National Centre for Craft and Design in Sleaford.

This exhibition entitled ‘From Within’ has provided members with the opportunity to express very personal thoughts using stitch, print, paint and collage in the form of framed artworks, panels and 3D objects.

SILVER

CCN celebrates its 25 year anniversary.

The Contemporary Crafts Network was formed in 1988 by Kate Naylor-High in Lincolnshire. Originally called Lincolnshire and Humberside Contemporary Crafts, the group aimed to form a self-supporting exhibiting group.

Over time the number of members grew to 25 and in 1997 Lincolnshire and Humberside disbanded as a regional arts board, this paved the way for the group to broaden its catchment area and re name themselves as the Contemporary Crafts Network.

Meetings are held regularly and are more than just business meetings to plan exhibitions and events; they form a vessel for valuable interaction for artists and makers to discuss and exchange knowledge, experience and ideas.

The present group consists of 25 members with specialists in the fields of ceramics, sculpture, felt work, weaving, textiles, silver, gold, jewellery, blown and kiln formed glass, paper, wood and furniture and mixed media.

This exhibition brings together work from all members, the theme of silver will run through the exhibition emphasising this anniversary and celebrating the achievement of working together across a range of medias for 25 years.

Out of Darkness

This exhibition of paintings and digital compositions investigates the genesis of form and synthesis of colour. A fascination with Nature’s phenomena and its rhythms underpins the work and draws on the interaction between science and art. Imagery reveals the emergence of form out of darkness developed from research into terrestrial and biological forms, cosmological and universal landscapes and focuses on the nature of line and the emotional power of colour.

Helene Markham Jones graduated from De Montfort University in 2012 with a Master’s Degree in Fine Art and recently exhibited at Techfest 2013 at IIT in Mumbai, India.

From Dodos To Daisies

A celebration of the work of Maggie Betley and Tracy Wright who have worked together for over twenty-five years designing a range of bold and decorative ceramic sculpture and giftware. “From Dodos To Daisies” explores the development of their most popular creations, with some new pieces created just for this exhibition.

Maggie creates a stunning collection of wildlife transformed into decorative and functional vessels and has been working on a range of vases and sculptures inspired by Lincoln Cathedral with subtle fish and daisy motifs. Tracy is fascinated by birds, cats and rodents and often incorporates a humourous or hidden element in to a piece of work.

Their partnership began as The Studio in Shakespeare Street in 1988 and progressed to The Studio at Stonecott in Waddington village in 1993 and is now known as Zoo Ceramics. Together they create a range of stoneware fired ceramics that has been sold and exhibited in hundreds of galleries and shops in the United Kingdom and Europe. Nowadays their work is sold at a variety of art and pottery shows and through internet shops and at their gallery in Waddington.
